ANDREW PORTER – YACHT BROKER
Andrew’s time on boats began as a young child sailing a wooden Penguin class with his grandparents. For the next 15 years, he sailed with his family out of Mystic, CT including offshore passages spanning the east coast from Florida to Maine.
Following graduation from Colby College, Andrew started a career in the marine industry: Grey Lady Marine on Nantucket; Alden Yachts Brokerage in Portsmouth, RI; The Landing School in Kennebunkport, ME for one year as a student and one year as an instructor; CW Hood Yachts in Marblehead, MA; Hinckley Yacht Services in Portsmouth, RI for 15 years managing service and refit work.
In his time in the business and his time on boats, he has operated, repaired, or watched someone else repair, just about every system on modern power and sailboats. This experience operating boats and their systems brings a hands-on perspective to buyers and sellers.
Andrew is a member of The Barrington Yacht Club (Board of Governors) and The Cruising Club of America (Treasurer of the Narragansett Bay Post; Next Watch Committee).
Andrew races keelboats and dinghies in two weekly series at Barrington Yacht Club and competes in other events on Narragansett Bay and further afield: Newport to Bermuda Race, Annapolis to Newport Race, New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta, Ida Lewis Distance Race, Sail for Hope Regatta, Super Yacht Cup Antigua.
Andrew’s free time in the summer is spent cruising on his Bristol 38.8 with his wife and three children or cruising Narragansett Bay on his 1971 Tripp Angler 22.
In the winter Andrew spends free time telemark skiing in Vermont.
